Horsemanship Lessons

Jody at Chrix Cox week clinic on "Biggs", 9 year old gelding, 16.3 quarter, practicing vertical flexion
The lesson program began in 2003.  The foundation of the program was developed around Natural Horsemanship.   Although we use different breeds of horses and offer many styles, the building block remains the same to being a safe and effective rider.

We have a multitude of horses to choose from in our program.  We are not a barn of one riding discipline.  I enjoy having my students ride different styles and different breeds.  This allows the students to develop their overall horsemanship skills and allows them to later choose a style of riding that they enjoy most.   Our school horses are experienced and well behaved.  The horses have been carefully selected to be in the program.  You may ride a rocky mountain, appaloosa, saddlebred, arabian or tennessee walker during your lessons.

Trail riding is a important peice of the students overall learning experience.   Horsemanship extends beyond a fenced in arena.  Trail riding allows the horses and students a chance to engage in different obstacles that challenge the rider and keeps the horses interested.  Many times the ring horse becomes sour and tired of going round and round!

We offer opportunities for our students to show off the skills they have learned by participating in local shows.   This is a great way to meet other horse crazy friends.

I attend clinics and shows as often as possible.  I believe that as a horseman I should challenge myself as I also challenge my students.   I never want to stay in (my horse box).    Learning from others allows me to pass on that knowledge to my students.  In 2009, I had the priviledge of attending a clinic with Chris Cox (Road to the Horse winner).  In 2010,  I will be participating in a clinics with Richard Winters at Happenstance Stables, Findlay College and the Reins program.  I will be returning to the ring showing my favorite breed, the Rocky Mountain Horse.

Lessons are $30 per hour (private)
